In today’s digital climate we are inundated with online tools that can help with our business website’s SEO. It’s often hard to know where to start and people often make the mistake of thinking “the more it costs, the more value I’ll get from it.” This is far from the case when it comes to SEO tools. There are loads of free tools but finding the right ones can be tricky.

SEO can be complicated and beginners need a tool that is going to inform, guide and improve. I’ve outlined 5 free tools to get you started.

Lighthouse from Google

Lighthouse is a free tool provided by Google that is designed to offer performance, accessibility and SEO recommendations based on an audit of any website. It’s open-source so anyone can use it on any web page.

Along with a score out of 100, the tool will also offer up recommendations on how to improve those scores.

Using Lighthouse is a no brainer and will give you a great indication of what you need to improve on with your website. Remember, performance and accessibility are direct influencers of SEO so with a high performance and accessibility score you’ll increase your chances of being found on the major search engines.

Now I don’t often like to get CMS specific as it excludes a lot of readers but as WordPress is the most widely used CMS in the World I thought I’d throw this in here.

Yoast is one plug-in but it includes many really useful SEO tools. It gives you the tools to bring your content to the highest standards of SEO and overall readability. It takes care of all your website’s technical SEO and, like SEMRush, offers academy courses for free.
